Mickey Makeover

Recreating a beloved child's toy

Mickey is 32 years' old and loved right down to his stuffing.

There was a lot at stake here. The little boy who loved him, now grown, was getting married and his mother wanted to present

Mickey in a memory box as a wedding gift.

Mickey as we received him, in his well-worn condition.
The new fully restored and repaired Baby Mickey.

His Condition

His eyes had rubbed off and needed to be replaced.

The fabric on his head, face, nose and arms needed to be replaced. The original terrycloth was worn off and no texture remained.

His face was ripped in a few places.

His mouth  needed to be replaced.

His onesie needed to be replaced.

First, we gave Mickey the all-important bubble bath to clean accumulated dust and dirt.

Then we carefully deconstructed Mickey's face to use as a pattern. This was essential to recreate the fine details of his expression.

We saved the original stuffing to ensure his expression would be preserved during restoration.

In consultation with the owner, we selected the fabrics for Mickey's face, head, arms, and onesie. The original nose

is inside the new nose.

Mickey's new jumper included a snap and heart button on the back. The jumper can be removed to reveal a heart on the chest that includes pieces of the original fabric.

Meet the new Mickey! Recreated, restored, and repaired to his handsome self.
